When someone in Kathmandu needs an optician, a plumber or a training centre, they rarely open a directory. They search, and they pick from the first few results on a map. Local SEO is the work of making sure your business is one of those results.
Start with your Google Business Profile
Your Business Profile is the single highest-return thing to fix, and it is free. It is what produces the map card with your photos, hours and reviews. An incomplete profile is the most common reason a legitimate business is invisible in local search.
- Claim and verify the listing, then fill in every field, not just the required ones
- Choose the most specific primary category available rather than a broad one
- Add real photographs of the premises, staff and work — stock imagery is obvious and unhelpful
- Keep opening hours accurate, including holiday changes
- Describe what you actually do, without keyword stuffing
One caution worth stating plainly: keep the profile honest. Descriptions that overstate what a business offers can get a listing suspended, and recovering a suspended profile is far more work than filling it in carefully the first time.
Keep your name, address and phone consistent
Search engines cross-check your business details across the web. If your address is written one way on your website, another way on Facebook and a third way on a directory, that inconsistency erodes confidence in all of them. Pick one exact form of your name, address and phone number and use it everywhere, character for character.
Use the words your customers use
Nepali customers search in a mix of English, Nepali and romanised Nepali. Someone looking for an eye clinic may type the English term, the Devanagari term, or a transliteration. Good local pages accommodate all three naturally in headings and body copy, and name the neighbourhood rather than only the city.
Locality matters more than you would expect. A page that says Jhamsikhel, Lalitpur will outperform one that says Kathmandu Valley for anyone searching nearby.
Ask for reviews, and reply to them
Reviews influence both ranking and whether a person chooses you once they see you. The reliable way to get them is to ask at the moment a customer is happy, and to make it a single tap by sending the direct review link. Reply to every review, including critical ones, in a measured tone. A calm reply to a complaint reassures the next reader more than a wall of five-star ratings.
Measure the right thing
Rankings fluctuate and are a poor day-to-day measure. Track calls, direction requests and form submissions instead. Those are the actions that pay for the work, and they are what we report to clients each month.
